This striking ivory coloured necklace consists of round beads joined together with constrating black coloured cord. This cord is woven around the round beads and two smaller ivory spacer beads are strung in-between. These beads are handcrafted from the 'tagua' seed or nut from a palm tree indigenous to Colombia. Also known as vegetable ivory, ivory-nut plams are sustainably grown and eco-friendly.
The seeds or vegetable ivory are dried, sometimes dyed and sliced before being assembled into beautifully crafted peices of organic jewellery resulting in a piece of jewellery where each bead has a unique pattern and shape. There is no need to tie the necklace to keep it in place as there is a toggle that keeps it secure and also allows the wearer to adjust the length as they wish - see 'important information' below for measurements.
Taguabella is made for Kazuri Beads Ltd by their design and production partners in Bogota, Colombia. Tagua stimulates the economies of South America, provides an alternative to cutting down rainforest for farming, and helps prevent animals being killed for their ivory.
