'Nkuku' is a village in Zambia. This name has been appropriately borrowed by Nkuku's founders after they spent a year spent travelling and working in Africa and India. Through meeting these talented artisans during this journey the idea of bringing their work to the UK was born.

It was inevitable, given its routes, that Nkuku would be a fair trade company. They are one of the few UK companies that are registered as a member of WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation) & BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops). Not only are they fair trade many of their products are eco friendly. They achieve this by using recycled materials such as vintage saris or leather that is a by product of the meat industry. They also encourage the use of traditional techniques and ancient methods of manufacture such as paper making, block printing and handloom weaving.
