Inspiration
All DiDi Handmade Jewellery is handmade by Didy Ward, in rural Suffolk. Didy's work is inspired by the natural beauty and wonderful colours of the Suffolk countryside and the coastline. Each piece of jewellery Didy makes is unique because the stones are unique, making for a truly one off gift for her. No two natural stones are exactly alike and they seem to hint at the very essence of our existence, linking us to the rocks and rivers, the mountains and mines they came from in ways that no man-made high street costume jewellery can.
As Didy's passion is making jewellery you can be sure that attention has been made to the smallest detail from the silver spacer beads used in many of her designs to the type of fastening used making her handmade jewellery not only exquisite to look at but easy to wear. In fact so detailed are her designs it is possible to notice something new everytime you look at them!
Unless otherwise stated, all findings and finishings are sterling silver or gold vermeil (gold plated sterling) or gold filled (plated alloy, but with a thicker gold layer than gold plated alloy). Didy has recently fallen in love with natural brass (100% pure brass) and she is increasingly using this in her designs.
Most necklaces are Princess length (17"-19") as she finds this is the most flattering length , falling below the neck but above the bust. This length can be worn with shirts, v-necks and crew necks but probably a longer length is better with turtle-necks or polo-necks.
Didy selects the wires or beading threads most suited to the design, but most are nylon coated copper or stainless steel, or waxed cords.
